Although one pregnancy in four is lost to miscarriage in Australia, most non-mothers have no idea of the traumatic aftereffects on a woman who suffers this death of a wanted baby-to-be.  So such women often don’t get the care and consideration they need.

Well-meaning relatives, friends and even doctors can be impatient with shocked women who stay sad after a few months.

Yet symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by a woman’s miscarriage can last many months, linger for years –  including depression, panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety.

1 in 6 develop PTSD long-term

A UK study suggests that one in six women who miscarry in early pregnancy experiences long-term symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Miscarriage is a pregnancy aborting naturally during the first 23 weeks.

Advice to ‘get over it, move on’ shows ignorance of the findings of many studies around miscarriage.

One woman said, ‘Eighteen months later I still have occasional flashbacks.  My doctor never told me that it’s common for a miscarriage to affect your mental health.’

When these women do not get proper care, do not have anyone to talk to about their shock and grief, are judged ‘weak’ by people around them, then unwanted symptoms – such as weight gain — can last for years.

 ‘They called my baby “bio-waste”…’

The good news is – such hurtful points of pain as the above medical remark do not need to stay with a woman who turns to Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT tapping) for stress relief.

It’s never too early, or too late, to lose miscarriage stress.

Science-backed, this accessible acupressure-and-mindfulness technique typically works gently and quickly to break the cycle of recurring bad memories and emotional pain, to bring peace.

The UK government has recommended that public money be spent on further research into EFT trauma treatment (which has lifted PTSD from almost 20,000 U.S. war veterans in 6-10 sessions over the last 10 years).

Consult a qualified EFT practitioner to guide you to tap away the residue of a terrible experience.

One woman who went through this loss says, ‘You are hurting because you’ve been through a pain that many people can’t even imagine.  Miscarrying can be a traumatic experience, and it’s time that society acknowledged that.’
